NHSDC General Meeting  2-5-04

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM. Members present were Linda Marble, Pat Quigley, Linda Moore, Kaci Berry, Jean Zinser, Donese Scheffe, Jack Holter, Michael Stephens, and Helen Engle.

There was discussion concerning the procedure of making a motion. It was decided discussion would take place first, a motion would be made, the motion seconded, and then more discussion if required before a vote.

Kaci Berry made a motion to accept the minutes from all previous meetings as written. Linda Marble seconded it and the minutes were accepted as written.

Discussion then centered on the new by-laws. Pat Quigley wanted clarification on the competition fees that the Club would reimburse. After much debate it was decided that:

          1) Only City, State, and Regional competitions will be reimbursed.

          2) No Jack and Jills will be reimbursed.

          3) Only 6 dances per year per person will be reimbursed.

It was decided Jack Holter will rewrite this section of the by-laws to reflect these changes. The wording will be:

3.07  Members in good standing for a period of 12 (twelve) months prior to select competitions (as determined by the Board) are eligible for reimbursement of entry fees in accordance with the following stipulations:

a. Only WHIP, Inc. Dance Houston, TSDA State and SWRDA Regional events are included as reimbursable competitions.

b. Two dances per competition excluding Jack and Jills.

c. Maximum number of dances per calendar year not to exceed 6 (six).

d. 3.07a, 3.07b and 3.07c are contingent upon the competition’s acceptance of payment from the CLUB.

Linda Moore made a motion to accept the amended by-laws after they are emailed to all present at the general meeting. Kaci Berry seconded it. Motion passed with one opposed.

Pat Quigley asked if general members are welcome at Board meetings. The general agreement was general members are welcome, however, they will have no say in certain issues, for instance, the dancing syllabus. Jack Holter stated he wants all proceedings of the Board to be above board and open to all.

Discussion then moved to the Anniversary Party. General consensus was the Club would like an Anniversary Party this year. It is being planned for a weekend night the end of April on the north side of town. No definite date has been set. The Club has a deposit at the Continental Ballroom. Availability is being checked. Other suggestions were Two Steppers or Houston City Limits. It was suggested we also have a workshop that night to insure high volume attendance.

Birthday parties will take place once a month. Thursday 2-12 will be the party for January and February birthdays. Linda Moore will be in charge of getting the cake.

Kaci Berry made a motion to adjourn. Pat Quigley seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 PM.
